15. Timiquana
Timiquana
I opened a knife and opened the ground
I made in the salt clay. I mixed salt and flour
and food coloring to make it: green island
of earth; I have brought you. I sharpened sticks
and made a circle to keep death out; a forest
surrounds us in the tampered hearth. I am a man
and these are the men I have made. I will spread
the dough before them; they will worship it.
